The Call of the Wild is a short adventure novel by Jack London, published in 1903 and set in Yukon, Canada during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, when strong sled dogs were in high demand.
John Griffith “Jack” London (1876 –1916) was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist. A pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction, he was one of the first fiction writers to obtain worldwide celebrity and a large fortune from his fiction alone.

Margaret –
This is the fourth book I’ve read/listened to by this author. I originally read it in school and enjoyed it. I listened to it because the book was offered to me and I’ve previously listened to other books by this narrator ( Greg Rizzo- six books ). I knew what to expect and have enjoyed the previous books of his. He does well reading the classics. His narration is smooth without extreme variations in expression.

Although I’ve intended to read Call of the Wild for some time now, this was in fact the first time I’ve read (listened to) it. Call of the Wild is a classic tale; it is such a good story.
Call of the Wild was written by Jack London in the early 1900s. The short story takes place in Yukon, Canada during the Klondike Gold Rush.
The story is told through the eyes of Buck, a powerfully-built St. Bernard and sheepdog mix living the good life in California. However, when gold is discovered in the Klondike, Buck is sold to men in search of powerful sled dogs. And so, the pampered pet must adapt to life in Canada’s harsh wilderness.
The narrator Gregg Rizzo has the perfect voice for this story. His voice is exactly how I imagine Buck would sound if Buck were given voice!
